E-mail To Kings School

To Oliver,

Thank you for sending us your interesting email about pollution. We didn’t know that you had to put two layers of sunblock on in the summer time.  We didn’t know that New Zealand was right under the ozone layer. Now all of us will hopefully put two layers of sunblock on in the summertime.

In Room 21 we have been learning about Soil.  Our first science experiment we did was looking through  soil to see if we could see any creatures that live in the soil.  There were ants, worms and much more.

We have also done something called The Turbidity Test.  It’s when you move you move a magnet through the water with a certain amount of soil inside and then you see how far you can see the magnet.  This experiment proves how clear the water is.

Did you know that there is more micro-organisms in a spoonful of soil than there is people on Earth?  There are four different layers of soil.  Topsoil, subsoil, weathered rock and bedrock.  We have also been learning about what life would be like without soil.  Soil is so important to us that this year the United Nations said that it is The International Year of the Soil.

Thank you for reading our email we hope you enjoyed it.

About the Artist

About the Artist

Barath is 10 years old. He was born in Melbourne but his parents are from Sri Lanka. He is a Year 6 student at Elm Park Primary School.  He has been attending Elm Park for 5 years now. His favorite subjects are Mathematics, P.E and Art.

Barath enjoyed the colour wheel eye art because it was interesting colouring the colour wheel. He found it a bit hard to blend the colours.

The school values Bharath used while doing the colour wheel eye was Quality because he finished his work in a very high standard and perseverance because he did not give up in the middle of the art when it got challenging.

In this progress he learnt how to blend colours, tinting, shading and how to draw a realistic eye.

When Barath grows up he wants to be a famous karate Sensei ( karate  teacher) when he is 36 years old in New Zealand.

Learning Reflection
I am learning how to write in the third person.
I am so proud of being able to finish my art on time.
I found it tricky to blend the colours.
My buddy can help me.
My next step is to find out what colours go well with other colours.

Spelling Graph

Spelling Graph Reflection
I am learning to learn how to spell new words and to use them in my writing.
I am so proud of learning these words so that I can use them more often in my writing.
It can be tricky to learn how to spell hard words.
My buddy can help me to learn how to spell the hard words.
The next step for me in my learning might be to try to learn harder words.

The three fat giraffes

The Three Fat Giraffes

Once upon a time in a land of peace there were three fat giraffes.  One was a fat mother giraffe, one was a fat baby giraffe and one was a fat dad giraffe.  They all lived together.

One morning mother giraffe said to her children, “make your own sweet house to live in because I am leaving.”  So they built their houses.

One stormy night an evil space-ship landed and an alien arrived and disaster happened.   Wiggle Woggle was the alien’s name.  He came to the houses of the three giraffes and saw giraffe number 1.  Giraffe number 1 had made a house out of metal. Wiggle Woggle melted the metal and he put the giraffe in the oven!

But Wiggle Woggle said, “not enough fat giraffes to eat for my fat dinner.” So he went to Giraffe number 2’s house.  He made his house out of fanta bottles.  Wiggle Woggle kicked the fanta bottles and put the poor giraffe in the stew too, but he said, “not enough giraffes.

So he went to Giraffe number 3’s house who believed in aliens.  He had made his house of glass and Wiggle Woggle blew the glass but a piece of glass chopped him all apart.

Giraffe number 3 saved his brothers and they lived happily ever after. That was outstanding end.
